MOROCCO GETS BYD PLANT The Chinese vehicle manufacturer BYD has signed an agreement with the Moroccan government about plans. to construct a factory in the north African nation. On the envisaged production site near Tangiers BYD plans to engage 2,500 employees to construct passenger vehicles, buses and trucks with electric engines, as well as produce a range of batteries.

This comes as both Renault and Peugeot-Citroen have previously announced plans to open manufacturing sites in Morocco, which is hoping to eventually produce more than 650, 000 vehicles per year. Adding a fourth facility will enable Morocco to reach these goals by 2021, according to government authorities.


The move to integrate BYD into Moroccos’ long-term infrastructural planning strengthens the nations plans to fully commit to sustainable development, which has also announced plans to produce 52% of the nations energy needs from renewable sources by 2030.
